Beal 6mm Accessory cord is very useful made into  a loop of cord, then use a “Prusik” hitch for example; ascending up rope, self belay techniques (abseil context) and they make great adjustable personal safety lines. Beal 6mm Accessory Cord Is also great in mini-haul systems and has a few rescue uses too. Plus great for tarping up!

A Prusik hitch offers best and most reliable friction grabbing capabilities at 55% diametre size of the main rope you are hitching it to. for example: 6mm Prusik loop hitched to 11mm to 13mm parent rope.
Yes, it can be argued that a 5mm cord is best on 10 to 11mm ropes, however when we look at the ultimate strength difference between a 5mm and 6mm cord is around 160kg (See table below). So in this application stronger is safer. Also it is of great importance that the hitch is properly built, made to the correct length for the application, and checked and adjusted regularly to ensure safe and proper use.
*Proper training is highly recommended for use with any/all pre mentioned climbing techniques.
