The Cardiac Challenge 2012

The Cardiac Challenge is an annual bike ride between Cairns and Cooktown in which riders raise money to participate.

The beneficiary of the bike ride is the far North Queensland Hospital Foundation, who specifically directs the funds towards cardiac equipment and services that benefit the Far North Queensland community.

Fundraising from this event helps expand the services of the Cardiology Department at Cairns Base Hospital to ensure availability of superior cardiac services in the Far North.

The Cardiac Challenge is held September 29 to October 1.

A small group of Cairns Base Hospital Intensive Care Nurses are participating in the Challenge to help raise funds that will make a difference to the cardiac services in our district.

We are also taking the opportunity to raise awareness for DonateLife Queensland the division of Queensland Health that co-ordinates all aspects of organ and tissue donation in Queensland.

One organ and tissue donor can save up to 10 lives and improve the lives of many more.

Unfortunately Australia has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world with less than 60% of families of donors giving consent for organ donation to proceed.  DonateLife is encouraging all Australians to discover, decide and discuss.
